I wanted to go along thinking that I was only academically influenced by the documentary “Food Inc”. That is to say, as a knowledgeable foodie, I could clinically take the information from the movie and apply it as I wished going forward in my foodieness.
Since I have only written one post after seeing documentary, I know that I have been affected in a much deeper way. Was it Al Franken’s character “Stuart Smalley” who kind of coined the phrase “Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt”?
Did I walk away from the film with the convictions of only eating non CAFO meat?
Will I hang my head in shame in the checkout line with my 2.99 a pound tri-tip roast?
Can I afford to pay the mortgage and other bills while switching to meat and produce that is at least twice as expensive?
These are just a few of the questions, there are many more.
Being a parent, I often find looking at the bigger picture is a better way to help answer these big picture questions. What can I do to teach my kids about eating, shopping and living more responsibly?
What can I do to write more responsibly? I mean, I don’t want to turn my blog into a banner waving “don’t support this” “boycott that” type blog (there are many already, Google is your friend).
Moving ahead, I hope to do just that. Write responsibly, objectively, and hope to help people in making the food and nutrition choices they feel is best for themselves and their families.
